First reader review since publication:

“Oh my friends, you all need to read this book. Immediately. I spent the last 2.5 hours immersed in the story and completely ignoring my responsibilities. I’m so glad I did. I related to the characters as soon as I started reading and then the story took an unpredictable turn. I went from being angry to sad to frustrated and then repeated the whole cycle. At one point Ryan came in the room and I said, “How could he write such a sad story??? We are not friends anymore.” A few minutes later I started screaming because there was another unexpected twist. When I finished I was crying tears that wouldn’t stop. Believe me when I say this is worth reading as soon as you can. This book offered me the chance to examine my own life and contemplate the choices I’ve made and continue to make. Thank you, Mike Parson, for writing such a beautiful story.”

BAH HUMBUG!

I am very pleased and gratified with the positive reactions to the announcements leading to the release of The Inheritance: A Story of Love, Legacy, and Lost Opportunities. For some time I hoped for a book release shortly after Thanksgiving. As December arrived, I thought mid-December would still be ok since many of you expressed the desire to give copies of the book as Christmas gifts.

With only a few days left before Christmas, I guess it’s time to be realistic so the important question is, when will that be? During the past two weeks, I have been in contact with the publisher almost on a daily basis. The fact that you have seen the cover is an indication we are very near the end. The impression I get is the actual release will be at the end of December or very early in January.

I understand your disappointment but before you begin heating up the buckets of tar and tearing open the feather pillows, I assure you, no one could be more disappointed than I. (Please no “Scrooge” or “Grinch” epithets.) I only began making the announcements because I did think it was realistic.

I promise to let you know, as soon as I know for sure, when it will happen. Many of you also asked where you could get a copy. Initially, Amazon.com, but there will be other venues as well. Feel free to check with your favorite booksellers (ie. bookstores, Costco, Sams, etc.) to see if they will be carrying it. Just give them the title and ISBN number on the back cover.

For those who would like to use the book as a Christmas gift, email me (or message through FB) and I will send you a certificate with the picture of the book cover on it that could be given in lieu of the book, announcing the recipient’s gift is the book to be released shortly.

I hope this is helpful in clarifying these questions. Thank you again for your loyalty, interest, and anxiousness about the upcoming release of my book. I’m still quite anxious as well.

P.S. This will actually be perfect for giving to your Eastern Orthodox friends. Their celebration of Christmas is January 7th.

What some readers have said…

What some readers have said about an earlier draft of:

The Inheritance:A Story of Love, Legacy, and Lost Opportunities

Steven B. Sample: President, University of Southern California

“I immediately sat down and read your book from cover to cover. It is a very fine piece—and excellent story, well told. Moreover, everyone who reads your book will be moved to examine the mistakes he’s made in his own life, and most especially the times in which pride and fear have stood in the way of love and reconciliation.”

Sherry Caudle: Administrative Assistant to the Dean, USC

“Ought to be required reading for that class in Family Relations in High School!”

Kerry L. Cole, MBA, CPA:  Businessman

“A poignant story of young love struggling to transition from the early blush of romantic infatuation to the maturity every relationship requires to meet the challenges of life; of decisions made and of irrevocable consequences to those decisions. The novel is a rollercoaster ride of unexpected peaks and valleys, twists and turns with a bittersweet conclusion that surprises and causes the reader to reflect on his own relationships.”

Kyle N. Weir, Ph.D: Marriage and Family Therapy.

“Wow!! I’m very impressed. The story is great. It has twists I never expected, I literally could not put it down. I read it through the first afternoon I received it. It definitely ‘grabbed me.’ It was not predictable, and I loved it. I felt the ending of the book was even better than the beginning.”

Thanks for your continued interest.

Why I Wrote The Inheritance

Why I Wrote The Inheritance:
A Story of Love, Legacy, and Lost Opportunities

I felt impressed to write this story while vacationing in Utah. I was reading an article about marriage relationships when the ideas came to me. Three days later, as I sat in the service-center waiting room of the Dodge dealer in Spanish Fork, I began the first draft. As I wrote I could feel the emotion in the main character. The more I thought and worked on the story, more ideas came.

Once school started, I put it aside thinking I’d get back to it eventually—probably during Christmas vacation. However, additional thoughts and ideas kept coming. So in September, I decided to develop it enough to give as a Christmas gift to my wife Terry. Trying to keep it a secret, I couldn’t work on it when the family was around. I spent every spare moment, writing in the early morning hours or late at night.

By Thanksgiving I felt the basic story was sufficient, since I just had enough time to have it printed and bound before Christmas. It was exciting to see the expression on each of the members of my family, and hear them say, “Dad wrote a book?

Fast-forward through a number of years and drafts of writing, re-writing, editing, etc., to the present. I am regularly being asked about the book; when is it coming? Where can I get a copy? Etc.

Will I answer these questions here? Oh, if only I could. In the next announcement? I hope so! Thank you for your patience. I hope to answer all your questions soon, very soon. Stay tuned to this site!

A Novel Idea

Some have asked, suggested, and in at least one case, pleaded with me to write a book. Generally, what they had in mind was a religious book about doctrine or church history. I hope this will not be disappointing, but what I have written is a novel.

The Inheritance: A Story of Love, Legacy, and Lost Opportunities is fiction, but there are many true principles found in the story. I believe The Inheritance will touch your heart in a way that could change your life and your relationships.

More to come: Why I wrote it? When will it be released? Etc.Come back to: michaelkparson.com on Thursday November 21st. You can also enter your email address on the right hand side of the home page to receive automatic updates as new posts are made.
